Saul Alvarez vs William Scull will take place in Riyadh in early May

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez: 34-year-old Mexican fighter with a professional record of 62:2:2, which includes 39 knockout wins, who holds the WBC, WBA and WBO titles. His opponent flies under the Cuban flag and has a solid record of victories since William Scull turned pro in 2016. But Scull is a much less experienced fighter at this point and will have his work cut out for him against his Mexican counterpart, who is already the former undisputed champion at 168 pounds. Alvarez is trying to reclaim the IBF title he relinquished last year, while Scull won the vacant belt from Vladimir Shishkin on points last October. Canelo is hoping to set up a mega-fight with Terence Crawford in September, but to do so he must regain his last remaining belt at super middleweight before securing a fight with a former undisputed champion at junior and welterweight. Alvarez hasn't fought since a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga on Mexico's Independence Day last year, and he's eager to book a lucrative fight with Crawford if he beats Scull on May 3.

The money for Alvarez and Scull will be paid by Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority (GEA), which has invested heavily in boxing over the past 18 months. The amount of the purses has not yet been disclosed, but both fighters have confirmed that they will be the biggest purses of their careers.
