Saul Alvarez vs William Scull is the most anticipated event of this spring
The fight for the undisputed super middleweight world title will be an important experience in the careers of both athletes.
Early in the morning of February 7, 2025, Turki Alalshih, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, announced that he and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez had signed a four-fight contract, the first of which will take place in May 2025. This difficult marathon will be a real gift for all fans of uncompromising boxing around the world. The very first fight will be for the absolute world champion in the super middleweight division, with the IBF, WBC, WBO and WBA belts at stake. If Canelo wins this fight, his next fight is expected to come against boxing great Terence Crawford in September 2025.
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is a 34-year-old Mexican fighter with a professional record of 62-2-2, which includes 39 knockout wins. He has held multiple world championships in four different weight classes, including unified titles in three of those weight classes. In 2021, Alvarez became the first and only boxer in history to become the undisputed super middleweight champion. He currently holds the WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles.
His opponent in the May showdown in Saudi Arabia will be the charismatic William Scull, a 32-year-old Cuban fighter fighting for Germany with a professional record of 23-0, including nine knockouts. He currently holds the IBF super middleweight title.
Alvarez enters the ring as the reigning WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring super middleweight champion. He previously relinquished the IBF title when he chose to defend it against Edgar Berlanga in September. Alvarez defeated Berlanga via unanimous decision to retain his belts, while Scull defeated Vladimir Shishkin in October to claim the vacant IBF belt.
Alvarez is considered by many to be the favorite, but Scull's technique has recently reached a new level, and the fighter has something to offer against the current champion.
